MY SUMMER HAIR & SKIN MUST HAVES

Hello everyone!!

I hope everyone is good! Things have been busyyyy but it’s good! Much better than boredom, don’t you think?

So summer is fast approaching and I’m sure many of us have grand plans for the summer. I really don’t have anything particularly interesting planned but summer has a way of making its own fun so looking forward to what the summer brings. But in the spirit of summer, I thought I’d share some of my must haves – some are things I just want this summer and some are necessities!

HAIR

Melanin Haircare Twist-Elongating Style Cream – This was one launch I was SUPER excited about! This brand is by one of my favourite hair YouTubers, Naptural85. She was one of the first people I started watching when I went natural and I love her channel. You can tell she is very knowledgeable about hair. So you can imagine my excitement when I found out she was launching her brand. I really want to try this cream because I’m a thick hair girl so I love butters and creams. I also love multipurpose products that I can use for wash and gos as well as twist outs or braid outs. This cream includes some great ingredients like shea butter, mango butter, glycerin and avocado oil. Definitely getting my hands on this one ASAP!

DevaCurl Melt Into Moisture Matcha Green Tea Butter Conditioning Mask – DevaCurl is a solid and renowned brand when it comes to curly hair. They’re not cheap but they ARE good.  I typically use DevaCurl when I have a special occasion and I want a foolproof hair combo. Devacurl always provides consistency for me – if I use, Devacurl I know exactly what results I’m getting. This deep conditioner is supposed to help with extreme dryness and melting those pesky tangles away. It contains glycerin (to attract moisture into the hair), sweet almond oil (that is rich in vitamin E and omega fatty acids to soften the hair and make it shiny), and coconut oil (to penetrate the strands and prevent protein loss). I’m all for anything that helps to get rid of these tangles! When the weather is hot, it is really important to keep you hair hydrated and moisturised.

Mielle Organics Babassu Oil & Mint Deep Conditioner – Pretty much everyone in the natural hair community must’ve heard of this deep conditioner! It’s one of those 2 for 1 deep conditioners that gives you protein and moisture in one cute little tub. I also love the fact that the owner of this brand, Monique Rodriguez, has the most incredible hair so that gives me further proof that she knows what she’d doing. This deep conditioner contains babassu oil (which promotes hair and scalp health) and peppermint and rosemary essential oils (which promote growth) – these two essential oils are also in my Nature’s Locks Reparative Hair Growth & Sealing Oil.

Coco & Eve Like A Virgin Super Nourishing Coconut & Fig Hair Masque – This is a fairly new one to me but I’ve heard only good things! It is supposed to “restore dry damaged hair” and “improve hair texture and shine”. This deep conditioner contains shea butter (one of those superrrr nourishing butters for our thick hair) and argan oil (which I absolutely love for my hair and skin). The fact that it is loaded with ingredients that contain vitamin E is a good sign since it’s renowned for giving hair lustre and shine. I also love how it comes with a free Coco & Eve tangle teaser!

SKIN

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask and R+R Mask – These two masks are without a doubt (joint) number one on my wishlist. Marianna Hewitt has always been one of my favourite bloggers so when she (along with her partner, Lauren Gores) released these masks, I was super excited. And I have only heard great things. They cost a pretty penny but, according to reviews, it is worth it. The Jet Lag mask is more of a hydrating mask while the R+R mask is more of a brightening one. The Jet Lag masks includes ingredients such as vitamin C, niacinamide and shea butter; the R+R contains some of my faves like Bulgarian rose, argan oil and grapeseed oil. My skin isn’t a huge fan of synthetic fragrances so I love that these masks are also synthetic dye and fragrance free. I neeeeeed these two masks ASAP!

Summer Fridays has 3 masks - I'm partiularly interested in the Jet Lag and R+R ones

Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum – If you know anything about skincare, you know vitamin C is really a skincare powerhouse. It is an antioxidant and it really gives the skin that healthy glow. What better time to have beaming skin than in the summer? What I also love about this one is that it contains glycerin and sodium hyaluronate, both of which are amazing for moisture. It’s also got vitamin E, which helps to repair damage and scars on the skin. All in all, this sounds like a pretty amazing product loaded with a bunch of helpful and effective ingredients. Please do your research before reaching for the vitamin C as it can have adverse effects if used incorrectly and you MUST use sunscreen if you use this stuff.

Ole Henrisken Banana Bright Eye Creme – I have honestly been dying to try this eye cream! I love the eye cream I use at the moment – it really helps with lines and creases under my eyes BUT it does nada for my dark circles and that’s the main problem I’m dealing with in terms of my skin. The whole idea is that it’s inspired by make up artists and their use of banana powder. So it actually has yellow-ish pigments in it that help to colour correct and brighten so I’m hoping it will help with dark circles. According to the site, it also contains vitamin C (which is always great from brightening the skin), aloe vera juice (for moisture and hydration) and collagen (to improve elasticity).

Glossier Perfecting Skin Tint – Now when it comes to make up, I am definitely more of a ‘your skin but better’ kind of girl. I know it’s not for everyone but it works for me and, from what I’ve seen, this skin tint is right up my street. It seems super lightweight as well as giving some light coverage. I also think the fact that it’s so lightweight will be GREAT in the summer heat – I’m a bit of a sweater (yeah it’s gross and I hate it) so ANYTHING that’s too heavy makes me sweat and it’s just stressful. To top it off, this product contains glycerin – this is great for people with dry skin like me as glycerin is a humectant so it attracts moisture into the skin. They’ve thrown some diamond powder in there to brighten and give that glow.
