MY FAVE DIY DEEP CONDITIONER

Hey beautiful people!!!

How are you all?? Happy new month! Is it just me or did January last for like 5 years?! I’m hoping to get back on track with life this month lol! I hope February is amazing for all of you. I hope you all had a great weekend. I spent part of the weekend cooking up some cool stuff for Nature’s Locks so stay tuned!

Now, I’ll be the first one to admit that I prefer to buy certain products rather than make them! I mean there are a few things I don’t mind making but when it comes to deep conditioners and stuff, I pop down to Target or Boots (or log onto Amazon) or wherever and buy myself a good old tub of the stuff. BUT I get it! I’ve been knee deep into wash day before I realised that I’ve run out of deep conditioner. It happens. Also, some DCs can be a bit pricey so, sometimes, it’s cheaper to rummage around the kitchen and bathroom for products you can use. Fear not, here is my recipe!

The ingredients

Disclaimer: this is just what I like to use. There are a million and one DIY recipes out there involving stuff like banana, avocado and other lovely things but I can only recommend stuff I’ve tried – you are more than welcome to substitute these oils for other oils you prefer! Also, IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO ANY OF THESE THINGS, DON’T USE THEM!! (Pretty sure that goes without saying but I don’t want anyone suing me).

Ingredients

  • Honey – 2 tablespoons
  • Coconut Oil – 1 tablespoon (make sure to get the raw unrefined type)
  • My normal rinse out conditioner (e.g. Shea Moisture, Aussie Moist) – enough to coat my hair
  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil – 2 teaspoons
  • (Optional) Vitamin E Oil – 5-10 drops
Method
  1. Put coconut oil and honey into a bowl or mug
  2. If the coconut oil and honey are in solid form or if the honey is super thick and sticky, put the bowl into a hot water bath (get a bigger bowl and carefully pour in some hot water, put the bowl of honey and coconut oil in there to melt it) or just run the bowl under a hot tap
  3. Then add in the conditioner and JBCO
  4. Stir everything together really well and deep condition as normal!
As you can see that was EASY PEASY! These quantities are perfect for my length and thickness but please make more or less depending on your length and thickness.

Raw & Unfiltered Honey
Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Organic Virgin Coconut Oil

Conditioner – this is the Shea Moisture Superfruit Complex 10-in-1 Renewal System Conditioner

Vitamin E Oil

I love these particular products because they have some really great benefits:

  • Honey – it’s a humectant so it draws moisture into the hair, leaves the hair soft and shiny
  • Coconut oil – prevents protein loss, one of the few oils that can penetrate the strands, softens the hair
  • Jamaican Black Castor Oil – softens the hair, adds shine, anti-bacterial, anti-microbial (kills micro-organisms)
  • Vitamin E oil – helps to heal damage to the hair shaft
There we go, friends! As you can see, it’s easy and takes less than 10 minutes to create.
Do you guys have any DIY deep conditioners you like??
