FEATURE FRIDAY: AZEEZA

Hi guys!

I hope all is well with you guys! I’m loving the good weather in London right now – I hope it stays this way!!! Today’s Feature Friday is on the lovely and gorgeous Azeeza (IG: azeezaes). Enjoy!!!

Tell us your name, where you’re from and where you live

My name is Azeeza Sanni. I’m Nigerian and I live in Nigeria!

How long have you been natural? And why did you decide to go natural?
I’ve been natural for two and a half years. I big chopped in August 2012 after transitioning for about 9 months. Honestly, I always thought about going back natural and when I saw that my relaxed hair wasn’t doing much for me anymore (wasn’t growing like it used to etc), I figured it was time to go back.
What’s the best and worst thing about being natural?
Best – the confidence it gives me! I can hop out of bed with my hair in cornrows and still feel ok unlike when my hair was relaxed and everything had to be P.E.R.F.E.C.T.

Worst – hmmm…probably the shrinkage I experience and it takes a lot to get my hair back to its stretched state
Give us a brief summary of your wash day regimen
My wash day routine seems kind of lengthy!
  • I pre-poo with coconut oil or tea tree oil for about 2 hours then I finger detangle in sections then comb it out carefully with V05 conditioner
  • I then co-wash with my hair in twists the whole time – firstly with a V05 clarifying conditioner and then a moisturising one
  • I only do a protein treatment when I’m taking my hair out from a protective style using my homemade treatment of mayo and honey and I leave it for 2 hours
  • I do a final rinse with black tea to give my hair shine. I leave it in for about 10 minutes (by which time my twists have probably unravelled loll)
  • I then section my hair for a braid out or twist out with Organics Olive Oil leave in conditioner, followed by African Pride curl pudding. I use shea butter to seal and a JBCO/coconut oil mix for my scalp. The whole process takes about 2 and a half to 3 hours – I’m trying to still shorten it!

If you were stuck on a desert island and you could only have ONE hair product, what would you choose?
Hmmm…shea butter! It’s the only thing that keeps my strands oiled.
Tell us a DO and a DON’T for your natural hair
DO: protect your hair, especially if you have length goals
DON’T: use heat frequently! Your curls and kinks are crying – you just can’t hear them!
Give us one piece of advice you would give to someone wanting to go natural
Enjoy every stage! Whether you’re at the TWA stage or you have long locks!
Thank you to Azeeza for sharing some of her tips with us!!! It’s always good to learn from other naturals!
