Hello guys!

And welcomeeee to our brand new site! If you’ve been wondering why the blog has been quiet, that’s why! We’ve been working on this site for quite a while in order to make your shopping experience a LOT easier. This way, you can place all your orders super easily and have your orders shipped all over Nigeria. If you are not in Nigeria, please feel free to order via theveestore.com (they also ship within Nigeria) OR please send an email to info@natureslocks.co and we will do our best to organise something for you.

Now on to what you came here for! What is the 60 Second Rule you ask? So a while ago, I started following an aesthetician on Twitter called @LABeautyologist (real name: Nayamka Roberts-Smith). Over the course of my time following her, I’ve learnt a ton of interesting tips from her. But the one that struck me the most (probably because it went viral) was the #60SecondRule. Basically the idea is that washing your face for a FULL 60 seconds (rather than the usual 10-20 seconds most people do!) is supposed to lead to better skin. When speaking to Cosmopolitan, she says “Make up, dirt and oil are a lot more difficult to remove from the skin than more people realise…so not only do you want to give the cleanser a chance to break down and dissolve products and grime, but taking 60 seconds also makes you pay attention to your skin and what you’re doing – like remembering to cleanse around the edges of your nose, under your shin and around your hairline”. She also says it “dissolves sebum blockages better”. Of course, once this went viral, loads of people tried it out and posted their before and after results. All you have to do is search #60SecondRule on Twitter and you’ll see tons of comparisons. Many have said that it has made a major and significant difference to their skin.

Of course, I had to try this and I’ve been testing this out for quite a while! So I’ve been double cleansing (only at night) for quite a while know and I swear by it! I’ve mentioned it in a few posts (here and here) but I use the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm to do my first (oil) cleanse and then I use the Sukin Cream Cleanser as my second cleanse. So what I did was I used the cleansing balm for about 30 seconds and then I used the cream cleanser for another 30 seconds. There were a couple of days where I used the cleansing balm for about 10 seconds and then the cream cleanser for 50-60 seconds – basically I made sure to always cleanse my face for a minimum of 60 seconds. In the mornings, I just used the cream cleanser for 60 seconds. And I made sure to only use my fingers/hands to wash – no face brushes. I wanted to see how well this worked.

Did I notice any MAJOR significant differences? No. But I also don’t have SEVERE skin issues (my skin care issues are mainly hyperpigmentation and hormonal acne). One big difference I noticed was definitely softer skin. I don’t know why exactly or how but my skin has definitely been a lot softer ever since I started using this method. If I had to guess, I’d say it’s because washing for 60 seconds is kind of like giving your face a massage so it’s likely to soften the skin. Another thing I noticed is that my cotton pad when toning was CLEAN and CLEAR. Have you ever washed your face and, in your opinion, you’ve washed your face really thoroughly but then when you go in with your toner on a cotton pad, it’s still got dirt or make up on there? I have not experienced that ever since I started using this method. In my opinion, clean skin is never a bad thing for anyone. Plus it is common knowledge that products work better on properly cleaned skin – there is no point slathering that special vitamin C serum or that glycolic acid toner onto dirty skin.

Now we all know everyone’s skin is different! What works for one million people may not work for you. And I don’t think it will solve severe skin issues – after all, washing for 60 seconds isn’t going to change your hormones or genetics. But what do you have to lose by trying it out?? You may find that it doesn’t work for you and it was pointless or you may find that it leads to significant improvements. At most, you’ve lost an extra 40-50 seconds and you have squeaky clean skin! If you try it, let me know what you think!

Love,

Tara xXx
