6 BENEFITS OF DRINKING LEMON WATER

Hi guysssss!!!

How are you all?? Apologies for the slightly late post – I have been SWAMPED with coursework and my dissertation. Just TWO months till I’m done with school and I CANNOT wait! A word of advice if you’re just starting uni: don’t go into it with the mindset of “I’m just here to get my degree and dip!” (like I did!). Trust me, when things get tough in school, it’s gonna be way harder to stay motivated. Try to have a more “I’m here to learn new stuff and get new experiences” mindset!

So onto one of my favouriteeeee things! I honestly can’t believe I haven’t written about this yet: LEMON WATER! Lemon water is my favourite thing ever. I drink it first thing in the morning before I’ve eaten anything. When I wake up, I drink about 500ml of water and then I drink a mug of hot/warm water with a whole lemon squeezed into it and I have seen some major benefits:

Healthier hair

As we all know, lemons are a major source of vitamin C. Vitamin C is VITAL for keeping your immune system strong (that’s why you’re always told to take Vitamin C or drink orange juice when you have a cold etc). It’s also super important for hair growth and thickness. If you take hair vitamins (or in certain ‘hair growth’ oils), you will notice that vitamin C is usually one of the key ingredients. It builds collagen, which is really important for hair growth, and it strengthens the hair.

Clear skin

This has been my number one benefit since I started drinking lemon water. Once again, the vitamin C saves the day here. As I said before, it builds collagen, a key ingredient for keeping skin youthful and clear. It is also said to slow down the formation of wrinkles and fine lines by slowing down free radicals. Personally, when I started drinking it, I just noticed my skin was clearer and smoother. I used to have tiny little bumps on my face which disappeared after I started drinking this stuff. I also increased my water intake and we ALL know how important water is!

Mini detox for the body

The lemon water, particularly when consumed first thing in the morning, flushes the body. Of course, you could just drink loads of water if you wanted but the lemon adds a nice touch and goes one step further. When we sleep, our organs (particularly the liver) are very active in restoring the body. Drinking your water ensures that the organs are able to do this properly. It also aids digestion.

Soothes sore throats

I’ve been getting sore throats since I was a child – I get them like once a week. So annoying! But drinking some lemon water with honey always helps! I’m pretty sure everyone already knows this remedy lol. The honey kinda soothes and coats the throat and the vitamin C in the lemon helps to fight any infection/bacteria that may be present in the throat.

Weight loss

If this is one of your aims, lemon water can help! This wasn’t really my aim but lemon water is said to help increase your metabolism. Also the more water you’re drinking, the less hungry you feel so the less you eat. Obviously, you can’t go to McDonalds everyday and then think a cup of lemon water in the morning will give you your Teyana Taylor body so be sure to combine this with a healthy diet and exercise!

Improves your mood/wakes me up

Anyone who knows me knows I am NOT a morning person! Doing anything before 11am is a serious struggle for me! But my lemon water actually helps. It helps me to be more awake and alert in the mornings without getting that post-caffeine slump that coffee usually gives you.

As I said before, I drink it first thing in the morning right after I drink some water. If you’re just starting out, I would start with 1/2 a lemon then work your way up to a whole one. If you’re not a fan of sour stuff, add a teaspoon of honey (don’t use sugar!). And make sure the water isn’t TOO HOT so you don’t kill all the nutrients in the lemons. You can also add stuff like ginger or turmeric for an extra nutrient boost.

That’s about it guys! I hope this works for you. Let me know!!

Love,

Tara xXx
