IS DAIRY CAUSING YOUR SKIN PROBLEMS?

Hey beautiful people!!

I hope you’re all doing well and you’re all having a fabulous summer. I definitely am! Don’t forget that my satin pillowcases are now available for purchase so send me an email (natureslocks@gmail.com) if you’re interested.

So…I wanted to talk about something that’s often discussed in the healthy eating circles: DAIRY! We’ve heard the saying “you are what you eat” over and over again so it’s important that what you’re putting into your body reflects a healthy lifestyle. We all know that dairy has some benefits e.g. calcium, potassium, protein and vitamin D. That’s probably why you were forced to drink milk and gulp down yoghurt as a kid!

BUT is dairy causing problems for your skin?? Many dieticians and health enthusiasts say YES. Many dieticians argue that there is a direct correlation between the amount of dairy we consume and certain skin issues, such as acne, breakouts, inflammation and ageing. I can definitely say that I am fully on the side of all these dieticians. A few years ago, I decided to stop consuming dairy and I started using almond milk and soy milk instead. Of course, the odd cup of frozen yoghurt was fine but overall, I cut it out and I saw major improvements in my skin. My skin was much clearer, my breakouts were less frequent and I just felt lighter and cleaner. I also lost quite a lot of weight and many people report losing weight as well.

“Why does dairy cause these problems?” I hear you ask. Well, it’s all down to the hormones! Without getting too scientific and boring (sorry scientists!), most of the cows our milk comes from are pregnant. These pregnant cows produce high levels of progesterone and insulin – these hormones end up in the milk we drink and end up affecting our skin! In some cases, non-pregnant cows are given these hormones so they produce milk for sale. All in all, this dairy is not so ideal.

So if you can’t consume dairy, what can you consume? I tend to go for almond milk, soy milk, rice milk and coconut yoghurt, and other things of the sort! And hey, no one is saying NEVER EVER consume dairy again in your life. But you should at least cut down on it even if you’re not going to cut it out completely.

For me, cutting out dairy has really improved my skin and overall health. The only thing to be careful of is that I’ve kinda made myself a little lactose intolerant, so now when I consume large amounts of dairy (I can handle a little bit), it gives me a stomach ache and I feel kinda sick. So just be careful of that – you can make yourself intolerant to certain foods if you cut them out completely.

So there we have it pals! Have any of you cut out dairy? What were your results? Was it a positive or negative change for you? Let me know!

Love,

Tara xXx
