Hey hey beautiful peopleeeee!!

How are you all?? I know I’ve taken a pretty long hiatus from the blog. For that, I apologise but that is not without good reason! I have lots to tell you guys about life recently!

Firstly, I have moved to Los Angeles, California! A bit of a surprise, I know (well, it’s not a surprise if you follow me on Instagram but yeah!). As many of you know, I go to university in London but my course allows for a year abroad and I chose to go to Los Angeles! That is the main reason I’ve been MIA lately. Moving half way around the world and trying to settle in ain’t easy, kids! I am lovinggg it so far – especially, the gorgeous weather! If anyone has any recommendations of stuff I should try while I’m here, please tell me! I’ll be in school here till June.

A few pictures of the beautiful Los Angeles!

Thennnn just as I was ready to get back into blogging, I fell pretty damn ill! STRESS! Had to go to the hospital after displaying some worrying symptoms. I was on antibiotics for TEN days, which just sucked the energy outta me! Anyway, I’m feeling soooo much better now so I’M BACK!

Anyway, onto what you guys are here for: HAIR!! And this one applies to everyone – natural, transitioning, relaxed etc. I’m talking about biotin! Now biotin is a water-soluble B-vitamin that usually comes in the form of tablets. It is often taken for the maintenance of healthy skin and nails as well as a host of other medical issues one may have. It is found in certain foods in fairly small quantities (e.g. peanuts, dark leafy greens, liver etc) however, due to the small quantities, people often take biotin in supplement form. I don’t want to get too science-y on you guys (not that I know much about science!) so I’ll tell you about my experience using biotin.

I first used biotin in 2013. If I remember correctly, I took it for about 3 months and I noticed an improvement in my hair. So what it did for me:

  • My hair got superrrrr thick!! Like so so thick! I definitely credit the Hairfinity and the biotin with thickening my hair that had gotten so thin from the relaxers I used to use.
  • My hair was a lot stronger. The biotin definitely did what it said on the bottle in terms of strengthening my hair. I noticed less breakage and less shedding during that time.
  • My hair definitely grew quite a lot during that time. I wouldn’t say the growth was anything OUTSTANDING but my hair definitely grew a little more than average.
  • I was retaining more length, which I think is part of the strengthening aspect of the biotin. However, I’m not sure if I can totally credit the biotin seeing as I had started taking good care of my hair when I was taking it.
I know several people who have used biotin to improve the health of their hair. And these people range from naturals to people with relaxed hair. Some people have also reported having longer, stronger nails. I didn’t really have that effect with biotin but I did with Hairfinity.
HOWEVER, a few warnings! YOU MUST DRINK A LOT OF WATER WHEN TAKING BIOTIN! I mentioned this same thing in my Hairfinity post. I know a lot of people complain that biotin causes them to break out – for most people, this was simply countered by increasing their water intake. Besides, you should be drinking loads of water anywayyyyy! And just because you’re taking biotin, that doesn’t mean you should stop taking care of your hair. You still need to deep condition and detangle and all that good stuff.

During a deep conditioning session
I have decided to start taking biotin again so I will keep you all up to date with my progress. I haven’t decided how long I will take it for but I will be sure to let you know. My advice, if you’re concerned about the biotin causing you to break out but you still wanna take it, is to start off with a low dose. For example, my bottle of biotin recommends taking it up to 5 times daily but I am taking only 2 pills daily (at least for now).
If you decide to take the biotin, please do your research and see if you think it’s the best option for you. If you have any concerns, consult your doctor! Don’t want anyone having a bad reaction and suing me lol! I ain’t no doctor!

Love you all! Now that I’m more settled, I will be more consistent with my posts!! Take care cuties!

  • I was wondering if you had any tips on how to soften thick natural hair, the kind that breaks combs.

  • Hi! I know just what you mean with the breaking combs thing lol. My number one tip would definitely be to deep condition. Deep conditioning helps to soften the hair, making it easier to comb. You could also try hot oil treatments as well. Also, for evennn softer hair, try steaming your hair while you deep condition. Or if you don't have a steamer, when you've put the deep conditioner on, put on a shower cap then wrap a towel around it or wear a beanie or something. This will create a warm environment for the deep conditioner, softening the hair further. Also, make sure to keep your hair as moisturised as possible. The more moisturised your hair is, the softer it'll be.
