Hey guys!
So we are finally at the end of 2015. I really don’t know what to say to be honest! I think most people can agree that it has been one heck of a year! Well at least for me. It’s been filled with so many ups and downs, so many learning experiences (good and bad) and so many opportunities. In fact, so much has happened this year that I actually can’t believe it’s all happened in one year!
If I had to sum my year up into three lessons I’ve learnt, I would say:
1) If you want something, go out and get it. Nobody owes you anything and it’s rare that opportunities just fall into your lap. You see something you want, go for it!
2) Take time to be alone and learn about yourself. For the first six months of this year, I focused on myself. It sounds selfish and, to an extent, it might have been. But it was the best thing I have ever done. It really helped me to learn more about myself and be at peace.
3) Surround yourself with people who want NOTHING but the best for you. I used to think this was a bit cliche but, this year, having gone through some tough times and also having received some incredible opportunities, I have realised that having a solid, supportive and loving foundation is SO important. If it wasn’t for a few key people in my life motivating and encouraging me, I don’t think I would be at this point right now. IT IS SO KEY! And by this, I mean people who will TRULY ride for you and have your back 24/7.
Without a doubt, the biggest thing I have done this year is moving to Los Angeles. Anyone who knows me well knows that I am such a homebody. I love to be at home and around my family and friends. And to be honest, that’s because I just love my “things”. I hardly sleep in people’s homes because I prefer to be in my own bed. I would pick a really good home cooked meal over going out to a nice restaurant. I love the option of seeing my parents, siblings, cousins, grandparents, friends etc etc whenever I want (hence why I refused to go outside London for uni!). So when I decided to pack up and move halfway around the world to a place I had never been and where I knew no one for a year, everyone was pretty surprised. Especially me! I think most people thought I actually wasn’t going to go because suddenly it all turned from “OMG you’re moving to LA?? That’s so cool!” to “wait Tara, what are you doing?!”. All the way to LA, I was sitting on the plane asking myself what I was doing. When I got horribly ill just a week after moving here and had to go to hospital alone, I asked myself that again. But it has turned out to be an incredible experience so far. I’ve only been there 3 months and I only have like 6/7 left but already, my life has changed. I am so glad I went.
Nearly broke my neck doing this 😮 |
