Hey hey hey!!

How are you guys?? I hope you all had an amazing weekend. I’ve recently implemented my “no work on Sundays” policy. I was going a little crazy and decided I needed one day off a week. So Sunday is gonna be my chilled day (I hope that lasts! Didn’t quite work out yesterday lol).
For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you know that oils are a huge part of my hair regimen. And as I have recently introduced y’all to my skincare regimen, you now know that oils are a big part of my skin regimen too! There are some oils I choose to use on both my skin and hair because they are just so amazeballs! But here we go!
HAIR

1. Pre-poo or hot oil treatment
My faves: coconut oil, olive oil, almond oil
A pre-poo treatment is (like the name sounds) when you apply an oil or a mixture of oils to your hair and scalp prior to shampooing in order to stop your hair completely drying out. A hot oil treatment is essentially the same thing, BUT you heat the oils up instead (I wouldn’t recommend putting the oils in the microwave as the microwave kills the nutrients – mix the oils in a cup/bowl and place in a hot water “bath”). I find that these oils soften my hair and make it easier to detangle as well as making sure my hair doesn’t get too dry. And it gives my hair a beautiful shine!
2. To add an extra oomph to a deep conditioner/conditioner
My faves: Vatika oil, castor oil, avocado oil
We’ve all had those DCs or conditioners that are pretty good but they just need an extra kick! For me, that’s where the oil comes in. Sometimes all your DC needs is just the added goodness of some natural oils. Oils can add slip as well as nutrients to your DC/conditioner, making the entire process easier and more beneficial.

One of my fave combos: my deep conditioner (this is the Shea Moisture Manuka Honey & Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque and Vatika Naturals Enriched Coconut Hair Oil)

3. To seal the moisture into your hair

My faves: shea butter, grapeseed oil
I am a huge advocate of sealing my hair. The moisture just evaporates out of my hair so I’ve gotta lock it in. The type of oil or butter I use depends on where I am and what time of the year it is. So when it’s warmer, I go for lighter oils. When it’s colder, I go for the heavy stuff.

4. Scalp massages
My faves: jojoba oil, Jamaican black castor oil
Scalp massages are such a good way to stimulate growth because they encourage blood circulation in the scalp. Plus it’s super relaxing! Try to give yourself a scalp massage a few times a week and see how your growth comes along. You can of course do this without oils but it’s more beneficial as many of these oils have great benefits for the skin and hair.

SKIN

1. Removing make up
My faves: coconut oil, almond oil
Many of these big brand make up wipes or make up removers contain loads of drying and harmful ingredients. I prefer to use natural oils. It removes make up easily (especially troublesome stuff like waterproof mascara and matte lipstick). All I do is apply the oil to a cotton pad and wipe over my eyes and mouth. If I’m wearing loads of make up, I will rub the oil all over my face and then wipe off with a warm damp cloth before washing properly.

2. To moisturise your face
My faves: shea butter, argan oil, vitamin E oil
Ever since I started using oils as a part of my regular skincare routine, my skin has improved immensely, becoming softer, clearer and smoother. All I do is wash my face and while my skin is still damp, I apply the oil to my face and gently massage it in. I especially like to do this at night so that the oil has time to really soak in and work its magic. It has done wonders!!

Another set of faves: Vitamin E Oil (this is the Nature’s Bounty Brand and can also be taken orally!) and raw shea butter (this is from Raw Apothecary – bought it on Amazon)

3. Oil cleansing method
My faves: grapeseed oil, olive oil
Did you know that you can actually use oils to clean your face??? Crazy, right? This method is fairly similar to removing your make up. All you do is apply a fairly generous amount of oil to your face and massage your face for a few minutes. I then get a washcloth and soak it in warm/hot water (obviously not boiling hot) and I lay it on my face for about 10 seconds for a mini steaming treatment, then I gently but properly wipe all the oil off my face. This method leaves my skin soft and clean every time!

4. To fade acne scars and discolouration
My faves: almond oil, vitamin E oil
You may or may not know this but a lot of natural oils have vitamin E in them. Vitamin E is a great way to fade scars or dark spots on your face. For example, many people use straight up vitamin E oil on scars on their legs and what not. You can use the oils all over your face or just on the problem areas! It may take some time to fade but I can tell ya, it works!

Just goes to show that there are so many ways to use oils for your skin and hair! And obviously, you don’t have to use these particular oils! If you have an oil or butter that works really well for you, go ahead and use that.
