Hey guys!!
How are ya?? I hope you’re all having a fabulous week! I’m so so glad it’s the weekend.
Now, on to a big one: sleeping in make up! A huge no no. If you’ve ever so much as googled anything about skincare, you’ll know that sleeping in make up is one of the worst things you can do. Trust me, I know the feeling. I know how tempting it can be. You’ve just come back from the club (or dinner or work or wherever). It’s 5am. You stuff some greasy but filling food down your throat. Slip into your pyjamas. Tie your hair up/throw your wig across the room. The last thing anyone wants to do it start scrubbing off that make up you spent 45 minutes applying. We’ve all been there. But I can assure you that failing to take off your make up at night will have you regretting that decision. Yes, we all know that person who sleeps in make up like 4 times a week and never gets one blemish but most people aren’t like that. On the VERY rare occasion when I do sleep in make up, I know for a fact that I can expect a mini breakout or extreme dryness. Here are some of the reasons that will have you running to the bathroom to wash your face:
This is the time of the day where your skin really has the chance to rest and rejuvenate. Wearing your make up while you’re sleeping really disrupts this process and prevents skin renewal.
I literally don’t know anyone who doesn’t love long, healthy lashes! They can really elevate your look. But as you sleep, that mascara is gonna get superrrr dried out, and just like dry hair leads to breakage, dry lashes lead to breakage too. It can also trap harmful bacteria close to your eyes, possibly leading to eye infections.
This is probably the most obvious one! Most people will find that make up clogs their pores. Even light make up (e.g. tinted moisturisers, BB creams) can clog your pores. Clogged pores = breakouts. Be sure to wash that make up off to reduce the chance of these breakouts.
Anyone who’s ever had chapped lips knows how painful and not-very-nice-to-look-at they can be! Keeping lipstick/lip gloss on for extended periods of time can really draw the moisture out of your lips, making them extremely dry and cracked.
Yeahhh I know wrinkles may be the last thing on your mind if you’re under the age of 50 but good skin in later life starts in the early years! Consistently wearing make up at night can lead to wrinkles later on in life. You don’t want to be scrambling to prevent those wrinkles when they’ve already formed. Prevention is better than a cure – remember that!
This is like an indirect effect but if you sleep in make up, it’s likely to get on your pillowcases. If you don’t wash those pillowcases immediately, that make up and dirt stays on those pillowcases and goes on your face every time you lay your head down – even when you’re good and you take your make up off.
There is NO better feeling than going to bed with a freshly washed and moisturised face. I really look forward to it every day. Sleeping with make up on can actually be really uncomfortable. I always wake up the next morning feeling like my face is so stiff and gross. Can anyone else relate??
All in all, sleeping in make up is REALLY not a great idea!! Most people aren’t born with perfect skin and, if you’ve been working on your skin, the last thing you want is to have a massive setback. So please try try try to always remove your make up at night. Use your preferred method to wipe it off and wash your face properly! And hey, if all else fails, at least wipe it off.Love,
Tara xXx
