Hi guys!

How’s everyone doing? I hope everyone is staying strong, healthy and at home! Remember that the sooner we all stay at home and continue social distancing, the sooner we will all be free to get back to our lives!

Now while we’re all stuck at home, we may be running low on certain supplies that we usually use to keep our hair and skin healthy. Well one thing that virtually all of us will have at home is honey! Aside from being delicious, useful and a healthier alternative to sugar, it has many benefits for the hair and skin – it is definitely something you can use when you’re in a bind!

Here are a few benefits of honey:

  • It is extremely moisturising – honey is a humectant (this means it draws moisture into the hair from the air around us). This is why I included it in my last post on boosting deep conditioners. It has the same hydrating properties for our hair and our skin, making it an excellent tool for dry skin, dry hair and a dry scalp.
  • It is very soothing – honey is great for soothing and calming inflamed or irritated skin, making it excellent for use on an itchy scalp or irritated skin. I have even used honey to calm and soothe an angry pimple.
  • It has antibacterial and anti-fungal properties – honey (especially raw honey and Manuka honey) is one of those natural ingredients that can help to reduce bacteria and fungi. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should use honey in place of actual medicine, if need be, but it certainly helps. This is another reason why honey on pimples is a great remedy.

There are several ways to use honey to the benefit of your hair and skin. Here are some of my favourite ways to use it:

  • You can add it to your deep conditioner – I did a whole post about this just last week so take a look at how to incorporate honey into your deep conditioner
  • You can pre-poo with it – a pre-poo is when you apply an oil or conditioner to your hair prior to washing with shampoo. You can actually use honey as well. For this, I recommend mixing the honey into your oils or into the conditioner. Click here to watch the IGTV video I just filmed on pre-pooing your hair or watch the YouTube version.
  • You can use it as a face mask or spot treatment – you can use the honey alone or mix it with other hydrating and beneficial ingredients, such as green tea leaves, aloe vera or argan oil.

I hope that helps guys! Honey is an amazing tool for your skin and your hair and I urge you to take advantage of it!

Love,

Tara xXx
