Hey guys!!

How are you all?? I wanted to start by saying a huge thank you to everyone who has bought one of my oils so far! I really appreciate it. If you haven’t, feel free to drop me an email at natureslocks@gmail.com and order one!

One to something so so so key! Washing your face. We all know this is like the first step to healthy skin – keeping your face clean. But are some of your face washing methods actually hindering your progress? Read below to see if you’re making these mistakes…

  1. Using water that is too hot – this is a big no no. Firstly, the hot water can burn the delicate skin on your face, which is bound to be super painful. Plus, hot water opens your pores, allowing dirt and germs to get into your pores. I would strongly recommend using lukewarm water to wash your face and then rinsing your face with cool water to close your pores.
  2. Using the wrong products – using the wrong products for your skin is the fastest way to mess up your skin. Remember that everyone’s skin is different. Just because it worked for your twin sister, doesn’t mean it will work for you. As always there’s a little trial and error involved but pay attention to what works and doesn’t work for you.

  3. Washing your face with dirty hands – this is one that is easy to forget. It’s very easy and common to just go straight in to washing your face without washing your hands first but, think about it, if you do that, you’re introducing any dirt that’s on your hands to your face. Yuck! It takes 10 seconds – wash your hands first!
  4. Not knowing your skin type – this one ties back to number 2 but not knowing your skin type is where most people run into skin care issues. For example, using a cleanser for oily skin when you have dry skin is definitely not going to do your skin any favours whatsoever! Knowing your skin type will guide you towards the products you should be using.
  5. Not moisturising immediately – waiting till your face is bone dry to moisturise your face is a no no. One of the reasons for moisturising your skin is to replenish the moisture and/or lock in the moisture from washing your face. You should moisturise your face when your skin is still slightly damp.

  6. Not exfoliating on a regular basis – not exfoliating is quite frankly a sin against your skin! You NEED to remove those dead skin cells that can cause your skin to be dry and dull amongst other things! There are soooo many different types of exfoliating products on the market that you have no excuse not to! I used to use scrubs but I found them drying and often caused little tears on my skin. Now, I use a very light peel twice a week – The Body Shop Vitamin C Glow-Revealing Liquid Peel (it has transformed my skin!).
  7. Rubbing your face with a towel – this is the worst thing ever and I cringe sooooo badly whenever I see anyone doing this! Please do not rub or scrub your face with a towel to dry it! All that does is irritate the skin and potentially cause microtears in the skin. All you need to do is simply dab your face with the towel. BONUS: please use a clean and, preferably, separate towel for your face. Using the towel you use on your body introduces other germs and dirt to your clean skin.
  8. Using dirty tools e.g. face brush, wash cloth – we all know the immense benefits face brushes and other face tools can have. I swear by my Clinique Sonic System Purifying Cleansing Brush BUT the last thing you want to do is use dirty tools on your face. All you’re doing is transferring that dirt and bacteria from the tools to your face, which can lead to breakouts or rashes. If your brush has a changeable head, you should replace the head on a regular basis. Also follow the tool cleaning instructions to ensure proper hygiene.

  9. Not removing your make up first – if you’re not removing your make up before washing your face, you’re just not washing your face properly. We all know keeping make up on your face for prolonged periods can lead to a bunch of skin problems (looking at you guys that wear make up to sleep!). So it is so important to properly remove your make up before washing. I personally love the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm – it literally melts the make up off and doesn’t dry out my skin like most wipes do.
  10. Over-washing – yes you should wash your face thoroughly and washing your face twice a day is the norm but there is such a thing as overwashing. For example, using too many cleansing products or washing too many times a day. It can result in dry, cracked and overly sensitive skin that is stripped of its natural oils. So you need to learn to find a balance between keeping your face clean and not doing too much.

Those are my 10 things folks! I’m sure there are more but these are the ones that come to mind. If you’re doing any of these things, I beg you – please stop!! Get on the road to beautiful healthy skin!

Love,

Tara xXx
